Sealed Units & Replacement Sealed Units

Flat glass, sheet glass or plate glass are types of glass, initially produced in plane form, commonly used for windows, glass doors, transparent walls and windshields.

Insulated glass consists of 2 panes of glass separated by a space. The perimeter of the glass is sealed allowing no movement of outside air into the space.

The space itself can be filled with dehydrated air or with a special gas. The type of glass, the type of spacer and the type of gas used in the space contribute to the overall insulating efficiency of the glass and also the total cost.

"Condensated," "misted," or "cloudy". In the trade we say that the double glazed sealed unit has "broken down". This means that the perimeter edge seal has lost it's integrity and that is letting in moisture from somewhere. The moisture itself is hard to spot at first, sometimes becoming only visible as the sun or other heat source "draws the moisture up. Typically the moisture will be drawn in as the atmospheric pressure changes and it will build up eventually condensing into water inside the sealed unit. This can sometimes fill to look like a fish tank with several inches of water between the pane which cannot escape, Other cases re-activate the dormant desiccant inside the spacer bar, creating an acid which burns into the glass and when dried out will leave a white cloudy streak as in the picture below.
